Fraud Firestorm: Pressure Mounts on Duale Over SHA Scandal

Massive fraud allegations within Kenya’s new Social Health Authority (SHA) have triggered widespread calls for accountability, including demands for the immediate resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and SHA board chair Mohamed Abdi. This scandal unfolds despite the Kenya Kwanza administration’s establishment of SHA to replace the graft-ridden National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), aiming to restore public confidence in the health system.
The controversy intensified after CS Duale revealed that SHA had rejected claims amounting to Sh10 billion from fraudulent hospitals. This disclosure, made on May 26th, 2025, sparked fresh concerns among health stakeholders and leaders regarding the management of public funds under the new scheme.
