Four police inspectors accused of abducting, extorting N151.5m from foreign-based Nigerian
In a shocking case of police misconduct, four police inspectors have been accused of abducting and extorting N151.5 million from Segun Okubajo, a foreign-based Nigerian, after kidnapping him in Lagos and taking him to Abuja.
The incident was revealed in a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, by prominent legal practitioner, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, on behalf of Okubajo’s father, Mr. Okubajo Kehinde.

The petition claims that Segun was abducted by the officers on October 9, 2024, in Lagos, where they entered his apartment with heavy weapons, deactivated his CCTV cameras, and forcibly took him to Abuja.
The officers are accused of having ties to known police informants, Oladipo Ibrahim and Shedrach Luka, who allegedly target foreign-based Nigerians for extortion.
According to the petition, the officers initially demanded a whopping N1 billion but later agreed to a "negotiated" sum of N151.5 million.
In an effort to save Segun’s life, the family had no choice but to raise the money through loans, contributions from friends, and cooperative societies.
Despite paying the extorted amount, the Okubajo family continues to face threats from the officers, who are said to have demanded that they not seek justice.
The police officers are also accused of claiming that half of the money went to retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Sylvester Abiodun Alabi.
The Okubajo family has now demanded urgent action from the IGP, asking for a comprehensive investigation into the officers involved, a refund of the extorted sum, and disciplinary measures against the accused policemen.
In their petition, the family expressed frustration at the lack of action following earlier complaints filed in November 2024 and warned that they would escalate the case to both local and international media if there was no resolution within 14 days.
“We want justice,” the petition concluded, outlining their demands for immediate action, including the refund of N151.5 million and the cessation of further threats against the family. The petition, supported by documents, videos, and pictures, urges IGP Egbetokun to act swiftly to restore justice and protect the family from any further harm.
The petition warns that failure to address the issue within the given time frame would compel the family to take further legal action and involve international bodies.
The Okubajo family is determined to ensure that the corrupt officers are held accountable and that similar incidents do not happen again.
