Forest Strikes Early: Napoli's Lorenzo Lucca Arrives on Loan

Nottingham Forest has officially announced the loan signing of striker Lorenzo Lucca from Serie A club Napoli, with the deal set to run until the end of the current season. The agreement, confirmed on Friday, includes an option for Sean Dyche's side to make the transfer permanent in the upcoming summer transfer window, signalling a strategic move to bolster their attacking options.
Lucca, a towering six-foot-seven forward, brings international experience, having earned five caps for Italy. The 25-year-old's career has seen him play at the top level in different countries, including spells with Palermo, Pisa, and a loan stint with Ajax, before joining Napoli last July from Udinese. While at Udinese, Lucca demonstrated significant attacking contributions, tallying 29 goal involvements in 75 appearances across two seasons, including an impressive 14 goals last season alone. However, his time at Napoli has seen limited game time, with the striker scoring just once in 16 Serie A appearances – making only four starts – and adding another goal in the Coppa Italia.
Edu Gaspar, Nottingham Forest's global head of football and former Arsenal executive, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition. In a statement, Gaspar remarked, "Lorenzo is a player who adds specific qualities to our team, and we are really pleased he has joined us. Having played at the top level in different countries, he arrives with a good blend of experience and scope to continue developing as a player. Everyone at the club welcomes Lorenzo, and we are all looking forward to seeing the impact he can have for the rest of the season."
The signing comes at a crucial time for Forest manager Sean Dyche, who has been actively searching for a new striker. The team's top scorer from last season, Chris Wood, is currently sidelined indefinitely following knee surgery in December, leaving a significant void in the attacking line. Lucca's arrival is expected to provide much-needed firepower and depth as Forest, currently 17th in the Premier League and five points above the relegation zone, navigates the remainder of the season. While the club also assesses left-back options, including Napoli's Mathias Olivera, and has considered other strikers like Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen, the immediate focus is on Lucca's potential impact.
