Five districts on orange alert today

Kochi: The IMD issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Kerala for the next week. Five districts —Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod — are on orange alert on Wednesday, while Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on alert on Thursday.

Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on alert on Friday. Six districts—Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod—are on orange alert on Saturday.A yellow alert was issued for nine districts —Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad — on Wednesday. Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad are on yellow alert on Thursday.

Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram are on alert on Friday. Eight districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad — are on yellow alert on Saturday.The IMD stated that a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Rajasthan concentrated into a depression on Tuesday. It is likely to continue to move slowly west-northwestwards across north Rajasthan during the next 24 hours. Strong westerlies are likely to prevail over Kerala in the lower tropospheric levels. Under the influence of these, widespread rainfall activity is very likely to occur at some places until July 21.Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 40-50kmph are likely to prevail occasionally over Kerala and Lakshadweep until Saturday.
