Firestorm! Wike and APC Clash Over Tambuwal's Explosive Tinubu Remarks

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has vehemently countered claims made by Senator Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Tambuwal had asserted that a “national consensus” exists to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, implying it was not merely a “northern conspiracy.” However, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the spokesman for the Lagos APC, issued a statement on Sunday, unequivocally debunking Tambuwal’s assertion. Oladejo stated that the only emerging national consensus is one of support for good governance, predicting that Nigerians would reaffirm their trust in President Tinubu in 2027 due to his performance.
Oladejo further advised Tambuwal to focus on addressing issues with anti-graft agencies concerning his tenure as Sokoto governor, rather than engaging in political posturing. The APC spokesman also took a swipe at Tambuwal and other political leaders for their perceived futile attempts to forge an elusive opposition alliance. Oladejo sarcastically noted the opposition’s “endless talk of “consensus” ahead of 2027,” predicting that such efforts would be sabotaged by their “greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness.” He expressed doubt that prominent figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would ever concede to one another, citing their incompatible ambitions, conflicting interests, and loyalty solely to personal advantage.
The APC spokesman reiterated that Nigerians had overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 in favor of a government focused on performance over propaganda. He emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was democratically elected by Nigerians from diverse regions, faiths, and backgrounds, not imposed. Oladejo highlighted that President Tinubu has swiftly implemented the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which is already yielding visible results through economic stabilization efforts and legacy infrastructure projects. He concluded that the nation is beginning to appreciate the clarity, courage, and competence of the administration halfway into its first term.
Adding to the political reactions, Lere Olayinka, an aide to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, indicated that Wike would respond to Senator Aminu Tambuwal’s comments at an appropriate time. Tambuwal had made these remarks on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program, where he stated his political choices were guided by principles of leadership rather than personal relationships, and that he would support Atiku Abubakar over Wike for national leadership. Olayinka’s statement, made on Monday night after numerous media inquiries, clarified that Wike would not let Tambuwal’s “diatribe” against him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu go unanswered.
The FCT Minister’s spokesperson affirmed that Wike would “respond accordingly,” and would “definitely tell Nigerians what a betrayal is and what it means to have integrity.” This suggests a strong counter-response from Wike, indicating that Tambuwal’s comments have ignited further political tension within the Nigerian political landscape.
