Firefighter injured after massive blaze breaks out at Sadar Bazar building

New Delhi: A firefighter was injured after a massive fire broke out at a building in North Delhi's Sadar Bazar on Saturday afternoon.According to officials, the incident was reported at 3:49 pm.

A total of 27 fire tenders and over 100 firefighters rushed to the spot, located in the Main Market of Sadar Bazar. The fire reportedly started on the first floor of the building and quickly spread to three upper floors. The area, known for its dense crowds and congested lanes, posed additional challenges for firefighting efforts.

The injured firefighter is identified as Yogender, who is posted at the Sadar Bazar fire station.

He sustained injuries during fire dousing efforts.Police stated that renovation work was underway at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. A senior fire official added that large quantities of combustible materials, likely cosmetic products, were stored inside the shop. "Taking into account the nature of the items and the fire history of this area, we immediately deployed a large number of fire tenders," the official said.

"In the past, similar incidents in Sadar Bazar turned horrific and took hours to control. We didn't take any chances due to the heavy footfall in the market."The fire was successfully contained before it could cause further damage. During the operation, Yogender was injured. Additionally, some carpenters at the scene claimed one of their colleagues was also hurt. However, officials noted that they have not yet been able to verify this claim through hospital records.Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause and assess the damage. Visuals from the scene show smoke coming out and firefighters dousing the blaze. Due to the impact of heat, cracks appeared in the building.
