A rape allegation at IIM-Calcutta has been complicated by the complainant's father, who claims his daughter was injured in an accident, contradicting the police report. The woman alleged she was drugged and assaulted in a hostel after being invited for counseling, leading to the accused student's arrest.

The reported rape of a woman by an Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta) student inside a campus hostel has taken a fresh turn, as her father has publicly denied that any such incident occurred.Meanwhile, Kolkata Police said that the Deputy Commissioner of the Southwest Division has formed a nine-member special investigation team to probe the case further.

Police had earlier said the accused student was arrested on Saturday after the woman filed an FIR alleging sexual assault. According to investigators, the incident took place on Friday night in the boys’ hostel.

However, speaking to reporters later on Saturday, the woman’s father claimed his daughter was injured in an accident, not an assault.

“I got a call from my daughter around 9:40 pm on Friday,” he said. “She told me she fell from a vehicle, lost consciousness, and suffered injuries. Later, I was informed she had been admitted to SSKM Hospital. Nothing like what the police are claiming happened, based on what my daughter told me.”

In her complaint, the woman alleged she had been called to the hostel for a counselling session. Police said she reported losing consciousness after consuming a drink laced with drugs and realized she had been raped when she regained awareness. A court in Alipore on Saturday remanded the accused student in police custody until July 19. During the hearing, the student’s lawyer argued that IIM-Calcutta, located in Joka on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, is a secure campus with restricted access, suggesting there were inconsistencies in the allegations. Police added that the investigation is ongoing.
