Fever's Dire Injury Report: Caitlin Clark's Slow Return Impacts WNBA Season
Caitlin Clark, the highly anticipated Indiana Fever guard, faced an unexpectedly challenging second WNBA season marked by a series of injuries that sidelined her for 19 regular-season games, including her expected appearance as a captain in the WNBA's first All-Star Game in Indianapolis on July 19. Despite never missing a game during her four years at the University of Iowa or her rookie WNBA season in 2024, Clark's 2025 season has been marred by three separate muscle injuries, forcing her to watch from the sidelines, an all too familiar sight.
Clark's injury woes began on May 3, when left leg soreness, described as quad tightness, sidelined her for the Fever's exhibition opener. Though she played the following day, a more significant left quad sprain was announced on May 26, forcing her to miss at least two weeks and five games from May 28 to June 10, during which the Fever went 2-3. She made a powerful return on June 14, scoring 32 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds against the New York Liberty, helping to end their perfect season. However, this comeback was short-lived, as she was ruled out again on June 26 due to a left groin sprain, an injury discovered after a training staff MRI. This period also saw a significant shooting slump for Clark, going 1-for-23 from the 3-point line in a three-game stretch before being sidelined.
After returning on July 9, Clark played in a few games, but on July 15, she suffered a right groin sprain in the final minute of a win over the Connecticut Sun. This injury proved most critical, leading to her withdrawal from the All-Star Game and 3-point challenge. As of early August, Clark continues individual rehab and workouts, with no clear timetable for her return to team activities. Coach Stephanie White emphasized that Clark's long-term health and well-being are the organization's priority, acknowledging the difficulty of adjusting to her absence due to her
