Favourites to become new Norwich manager after sacking Johannes Hoff Thorup

Published 1 week ago5 minute read

The Canaries have sacked their head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup and placed Jack Wilshere in charge for their two remaining games of the season.

Thorup, 36, was brought in in May 2024 as the replacement for David Wagner, who was sacked following Norwich’s playoff defeat by Leeds United last season.

Norwich City can confirm that head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has left the club with immediate effect. Assistant head coach Glen Riddersholm has also left his position.

We would like to thank Johannes and Glen for their efforts during their time at the club.

It’s always a shame to concede so early in the game because I actually think we started well. The first five, six minutes of the first half was good, we dominated again and then the first situation of the game where we lose the ball in a critical area, it ends up being a goal.

“The game changed, we had to be chasing a little bit and still be cautious about not opening up space. The goal we scored before half-time gave us a little bit of momentum but not enough.

“We are as frustrated as they [the fans] are. It’s clear that we are in a difficult place of the season where we are struggling. There’s nothing else we can do except keep on going and see if we can get it sorted for the next game that we play. It is a difficult moment, they are frustrated and we are frustrated.

“They lifted us a little bit when we scored that goal just before half-time and we wanted to come out in the second half with some momentum, and use them as a part of momentum but we didn’t create enough and were inviting their pressure too easy.

“It became a game about second balls and direct play instead of us forcing and pushing them back.”

: Well I wasn’t expecting that

: Quite shocked, tbh!!

: Two likeable guys, saw huge glimpses but equally awful lows. Good luck. Russell Martin please.

: This is ridiculous. Genuinely engaging, charismatic personality. Clearly talented & knew how to coach and attack. We’re one of the divisions top scorers FFS. We were worse in Farke’s first season. Should’ve given JHT another summer and seen how next season went.

: Have to say I’m surprised. Performances and results have been shocking but expected a farke like resurrection for next season. Wilshere for next season??

: What a shame, he was doing such a great job!

: absolutely mental decision, showed when the players he has are in the squad it works, bloke gets the club and the fans about how much it means, yes it’s been ugly at the tail end, but needed the summer clearout and start of next year to show his worth

: This is a poor call, don’t care what anyone says, this club will now be in free fall, what’s the point of a new project if a manager gets less than a season, gonna be one manager after another now

: Crazy decision, should have gave him the summer window, people calling for Russel Martin 😭😭😭

: Looking forward to another ‘transition season’ already

: A HUGE step backwards. Should have given him the summer to rebuild what obviously is a squad which has only started it’s transition. He was never able to choose a settled eleven because of injuries and a lack of experienced players – those we had just weren’t up to it any more.

@ABlueHorizon_: I think that’s a poor decision, but if he has lost the dressing room then it’s a cheaper choice than replacing every single dissenting player. I am shocked

@JamesCo78511987: As bad as results had been recently I really was not expecting this

HAVE YOUR SAY –

What ever the circumstances it’s a results business, our performances and results have been terrible, JHT seems like a good fella so good luck to him. As always in these situations the players get off scott free, a few need to have a look at themselves! #Ncfc
