Published 2 days ago5 minute read

Ange Postecoglou, sacked nine days after winning Tottenham’s first European trophy in 41 years, delivered a powerful Europa League final speech that has now been shared on social media.

Despite a poor 17th-place Premier League finish, the 59-year-old Australian fulfilled his promise to win silverware in his second season.

Known for inspiring players and leaving legacies at clubs like Celtic, Postecoglou’s emotional dressing room address at San Mames Stadium has resonated with fans, many of whom believe he deserved more time at Spurs.

Have a watch of this…

“Okay. In the day I arrived was about family. We’re not in this position just because of our footwork.

“We’re in this position because all of you, all of you, us the staff, stuck together like family of you in tough times, and we’re gonna need that today.

“Remember why we do this. It’s not about just about winning things. It’s about paying back, giving to people who love us and make sacrifices for us.

“So you walk out today, not just 11 brothers. You walk out today with all of us with you, with all those people with you.

“There are thousands in the stadium with you. Hundreds of thousands back home with you. We’re the biggest element, and they can’t stop us. They can’t stop us. What we have can’t be stopped.

“Just go out there, play our football, be like a family, and at the end of the game, when he’s lifting that trophy, if you’re the ease lifting that trophy, you’re gonna make all those people proud when they haven’t ever been in their life.”

: Chills anyone?

: Convinced Ange would have delivered more trophies had he stayed!

: Who’s cutting onions? 😢

: I stand by it. This guy is a special manager and will go on to great success hopefully. The league position wasn’t acceptable but with ridiculous injuries he made the decision to go for a cup that came with the board’s ultimate goal last season that being CL qualification…

: You lot don’t know just how good a manager he is, you don’t appreciate a good manager and yet he’s won you a major European trophy….I really hope he goes on to bigger and better things than the madness that’s spurs

: Plenty of people gave Ange Postecoglou stick throughout his time as Tottenham boss but no one can possibly deny his ability to bond a group of people together. That’s a pretty powerful speech by any measure.

: Never ever under estimate the power of a Brave Heart type speech. You can be the best technician in the world but if players won’t run through walls for you when you need them to so, then you’ll rarely succeed. Passion wins all day long.

: Proper leader and a great man. Gutted still tbh I expected top 3 this season (if stayed fit ofc! 😂) Frank will deliver strong and stable but glory? Time will tell. Too rich for ENIC they need top 6 guarantees 🏆 or not. Wanted to see season 3 BUT In Frank we must go on!! COYS

: Obviously this is lovely. But anyone else wondering what it was he was saying to them before each of our 22 league defeats?

: I have never cried for something like this but this could genuinely make me cry he is the best manager we have had in the Premier league era easily

: He was right… it was probably my proudest and best day of my life. What a guy man, he had them locked in from the first till the last whistle

: I love this style of coaching. The ethos, the emotion is something I really look up to. Seen a few Ange team talks now and one thing you notice, he never swears, other coaches swear to emphasise points/rile people up, but Ange is one that speaks from the heart. Good luck Ange 🙌🏼

: Cheers just fucking burst out into tears

: Still think he’s a great great man, I’d have run through a wall for him after listening to that

: Fuck Levy 💔😭

: How the f*ck did we sack him after this… “They can’t stop us, what we have it can’t be stopped” man I felt that in my HEART

: He just got us, didn’t he? Thank you for Bilbao #Ange 🤍

: That is phenomenal from big Ange wow actual goosebumps listening to that, you literally feel like you would die for before you accepted defeat after that 👏

: In some ways I’m glad that he left when he did. His legacy is iconic, it can never be tarnished. But he still deserved the right to choose whether he stayed or left.

: Someone’s cutting onions eh. Ange is a special, special bloke. He just gets it

@Vegcarium: This gets me right in the feels. I still can’t get over getting to watch Spurs lift a trophy with my dad, my brother and my uncle. Probably the best night of my life.

@_HarryTHFC: Thank you Ange for one of the best nights of my life. Just wanted to feel something with Spurs again, and I did. You’ll always be a legend. COYS.🤍
