Explosive Corruption Probe: Tinubu-Linked Alpha-Beta Rocked by Bribery, Tax Evasion Claims

Alpha-Beta Consulting Limited, a revenue consulting firm reported to be owned by President Bola Tinubu, is facing a barrage of serious allegations from its former employee, Segun Oluwasanmi. These accusations, which include systematic tax evasion, bribery, professional misconduct, and workplace harassment, have been escalated to Nigeria's top anti-graft agencies, including the Nigeria Police, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Copies of the detailed complaints were also sent to the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Lagos State Ministry of Finance.
Oluwasanmi, whose employment with Alpha-Beta spanned from September 2018 to January 7, 2025, submitted his allegations through the Lagos State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR). In his account, he detailed how Alpha-Beta allegedly engaged in widespread tax evasion by under-declaring staff salaries. He claimed the company routinely split employees' earnings into two parts, declaring and taxing only a fraction while concealing the remainder from tax authorities. Oluwasanmi further stated that the portion of salary on payroll records was smaller, meaning taxes were calculated on a reduced base and were also allegedly under-remitted. Internal company correspondence, specifically a memo dated April 30, 2024, from Anjolaoluwa Grace Ige, Head of Human Capital Management, corroborated these claims by disclosing that a Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) audit had indeed uncovered tax under-remittance. Although the company acknowledged the under-deduction and made some adjustments for the period of January to April 2024, Oluwasanmi alleged that Alpha-Beta merely rectified tax deductions on the already-declared portion, while the undeclared half was later rebranded as "reimbursable" to mask its true nature. This practice, he argued, negatively impacted employees' professional standing when seeking new employment. Beyond tax evasion, Oluwasanmi also accused the company of mishandling pension contributions, allegedly deducting both employee and employer portions from staff salaries until 2022, with the employer's share never being returned or remitted.
In a separate set of allegations, Oluwasanmi accused Mrs. Anjola Ige-Amusan, the company’s Head of Human Capital Management, of soliciting and collecting bribes to process travel allowances. This incident allegedly occurred in March 2024, concerning travel allowances for three staff members, including Oluwasanmi, Kingsley Esonu, and Mrs. Oyekemi Oyediran, following an international training program in Egypt in November 2023. A specific bribe of N150,000 was reportedly collected from Kingsley Esonu to process a refund of N3,310,912, covering shortfalls due to poorly calculated allowances and discrepancies in currency exchange. Evidence, including a GTBank transfer to Ige-Amusan, was presented to substantiate this claim. Oluwasanmi further detailed how the HR department paid allowances at an exchange rate of N1,000 to the dollar, despite the actual rate being between N1,200 and N1,300, and improperly calculated travel estacode for six days instead of eight. The petition states these actions constitute bribery and corrupt practices under various Nigerian laws, including the Criminal Code Act, the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, and the EFCC Act 2004.
Furthermore, Oluwasanmi brought forth accusations against Olumide Hezekiah Idowu, Alpha-Beta's Chief Technical Officer, for allegedly forging his signature on the firm's Cybersecurity Policy and manipulating official records. This alleged forgery, occurring in September 2023, was described as the culmination of months of sidelining and bullying by Idowu, who reportedly excluded Oluwasanmi from the policy finalization process. Idowu is accused of inserting Oluwasanmi's signature without consent and dating it September 8, 2023. Oluwasanmi, who was responsible for drafting several key company policies, including the Cybersecurity Policy, discovered the forged signature on September 13. An internal investigation panel was reportedly set up on September 22, 2023, where the CTO allegedly confessed to cropping and inserting the signature. However, the panel's findings were never formally released, despite repeated follow-ups. The CDHR's petition highlights that this alleged forgery and data manipulation constitute criminal offenses under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and the Criminal Code Act.
Throughout these events, Oluwasanmi alleged a pattern of workplace harassment, discrimination, and intimidation. Efforts to report the alleged bribery and other issues were reportedly met with obstruction from the Lagos Police Command in October 2025, including claims of harassment towards individuals used as "soft targets" to obtain his details. He also alleged that he was deliberately implicated in an unrelated case by Alpha-Beta in June 2025 to silence him. The CDHR, representing Oluwasanmi, has submitted a comprehensive petition to the EFCC, outlining the "tax evasion (under-remittance) and illegality/fraud against the state and Nigeria." The organization has urged the police, ICPC, and EFCC to conduct thorough investigations into all allegations, enforce appropriate disciplinary and legal measures, and ensure the complainant's rights are protected, emphasizing that inaction would undermine corporate governance and the integrity of the firm's operations.
