Explosive Claims: Osun APC Alleges Union Plotting Widespread Mayhem
The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over conditions set by the striking Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for resuming work, warning they could incite chaos and violence. The APC deems NULGE's demands as illegal and beyond their scope, urging security agencies to prepare for potential disturbances. The party also appealed to parents and guardians to prevent their children from being used in any planned disruptions, holding NULGE's leadership responsible for any breakdown of law and order.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning regarding a potential crisis, which it attributes to the stringent conditions set forth by the leadership of the striking state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for their members' resumption of duties. The APC alleges that these conditions are deliberately crafted to engineer chaos, pandemonium, and violence, thereby threatening the existing peace across the state's local government areas.
In response to these perceived threats, the APC has called upon statutory security services, including the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to maintain a high level of vigilance. The party urged these agencies to be prepared to arrest and prosecute any individuals found planning to disrupt public peace in various council areas, especially under the guise of the alleged crisis orchestrated by NULGE.
Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, who leads the Osun NULGE, had previously announced in a Monday statement the union's readiness for striking members to return to work, albeit with specific and demanding conditions, following a ten-month industrial action. However, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, criticized NULGE's demands, stating that the union was overstepping its boundaries and asking for more than its official responsibilities allowed. He emphasized that it is beyond NULGE's purview to dictate to council executives with whom they can collaborate.
The APC further questioned NULGE's authority to interpret court judgments and selectively choose which ones to obey, accusing the union of transforming into a
