Ex-Senator Elisha Abbo Detained Over Gruesome Child Rape, Denies Allegations

Senator Elisha Abbo is embroiled in a fresh wave of controversy, facing serious allegations of raping a 13-year-old secondary school student, Khadija Muhammad, and attempting to sexually assault her 16-year-old sister, Fatima Muhammad. The alleged incident involving Khadija reportedly took place on June 29 at Mr. Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja, after the girl was allegedly lured to the house by a 17-year-old associate of the former senator.

A petition lodged with the inspector general of police by the law firm D.I. Aiyedun & Co. outlines graphic accusations of rape, attempted rape, criminal intimidation, and threats against the victims' family. The petition details that the suspect allegedly attempted to undress Khadija, overpowered her resistance, applied baby oil, and forcibly penetrated her. Following the alleged act, he reportedly cleaned himself with a white cloth. Khadija later confided in her father, who, according to the petition, blamed her and failed to take action.

Fatima Muhammad, Khadija’s older sister, was reportedly targeted in a similar scheme. The petition states she was lured to Abbo’s residence by Zara Muhammad Chigli, where the suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. Fatima managed to escape before the assault was completed, but the attempt was cited as a grave crime demonstrating a repeated pattern of predatory behavior. The legal petition, addressed to the IGP and copied to the deputy commissioner of police – Gender, FCID, includes substantial supporting evidence, such as medical records from Deda Hospital showing bruising consistent with sexual assault, signed by consultant obstetrician and gynecologist Kehinde Duromola, financial transfer records, and witness testimonies. Furthermore, the petition highlights the psychological trauma and suicidal thoughts reportedly expressed by the victim.

The parents of the girls have accused Senator Abbo of making persistent efforts to suppress the case, alleging visits to their home, offers of money, and threats to release nude photos of the victim. They also claimed that former Adamawa governorship candidate, Aishatu Ahmed, widely known as Binani, visited their home, pleading with them not to expose the matter. The petition further implicates associates Nafisa Chigli, Zara Chigli, and Hassan Musa, accusing them of aiding the alleged crimes through luring, attempted assault, and financial inducement. The petitioners have urgently called for Abbo’s prosecution, a thorough investigation into his alleged accomplices, and robust protection for the victims and their family.

In response to these grave accusations and widespread reports of his detention, Senator Elisha Abbo has vehemently denied being held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. Speaking to Senate correspondents, he asserted that he was at his residence in Katampe extension, Abuja, throughout the period he was allegedly in custody. Abbo dismissed the reports as an
