Energy Committee Pushes For Answers On Missing ECG Containers
The Committee on Energy continued its series of engagements with key power sector institutions as part of efforts to streamline their 2025 operational plans. During a meeting at the Peduase Valley Resort, the committee met with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Bui Power Authority, and the Volta River Authority to assess their strategies and ensure alignment with national energy policies, particularly the Renewable Energy Master Plan.
A major issue that resurfaced was the case of ECG’s missing containers. According to an earlier report, ECG had 2,491 containers of cables and equipment left uncleared at the Tema Port. However, a subsequent audit could only confirm the existence of 1,134 containers, leaving 1,357 unaccounted for.
Addressing the committee, ECG’s Acting Managing Director, Kwame Kpekpena, stated that, efforts are underway in collaboration with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to locate and recover the missing containers.
The Energy Committee, tasked with oversight of Ghana’s power sector, will continue with its consultations. Think tanks such as IMANI Ghana are expected to join the next session to offer expert opinions on how to enhance accountability and reduce operational losses across the power sector.
