Highguard to Shut Down Weeks After Launch

Wildlight Entertainment has announced the permanent shutdown of its online multiplayer shooter Highguard, effective March 12. The game launched publicly on January 26 but will close after just 45 days of operation.
Developed by veterans behind major shooters like Titanfall and Apex Legends, the title initially generated curiosity among fans of the genre. Despite the experienced development team, the game struggled to maintain a stable player base.
The short lifespan of Highguard has drawn comparisons to other recent online gaming failures. Industry observers noted that it lasted slightly longer than Sony’s troubled 2024 shooter Concord, which shut down only weeks after release.
The rapid closure reflects the increasingly competitive environment for live-service games. Even projects with experienced developers and recognizable pedigree are finding it difficult to attract long-term engagement.
Analysts say the fate of Highguard highlights the risks developers face in launching new multiplayer titles. The crowded market continues to test whether emerging shooters can build lasting communities before financial realities force early shutdowns.
