Emirates Transforms Long-Haul Luxury: 100-Aircraft Retrofit Redefines Premium Flying!

Emirates has reached a monumental milestone in its extensive cabin transformation programme, successfully refurbishing 100 wide-body aircraft within its state-of-the-art Emirates Engineering hangars. This significant achievement encompasses a fleet comprising 47 Airbus A380s and 53 Boeing 777s, all now featuring modernised interiors designed to elevate the onboard experience for passengers traveling to and from crucial African destinations.

The scale of this undertaking is truly remarkable. Since the programme's commencement with the first aircraft entering the hangar in November 2022, a dedicated team of over 400 engineers and technicians has meticulously invested a collective 4.4 million working hours. Their efforts involved the complex process of stripping, refreshing, and reassembling these colossal aircraft. Each A380 refurbishment demanded the precise handling of more than 4,000 individual parts, while every Boeing 777 required attention to over 2,500 components. On average, the highly skilled Emirates Engineering team has consistently delivered 28 fully refreshed aircraft annually, a testament to the advanced technical sophistication and industrial capacity rapidly developing within the Gulf region.

A particularly commercially significant outcome for African travel professionals is the accelerated deployment of Emirates' highly sought-after Premium Economy product. The refurbishment programme has seen the installation of over 3,800 new Premium Economy seats across the retrofitted fleet. The first Boeing 777 retrofitted in Dubai commenced commercial service in August 2024, with approximately 20 additional aircraft projected to join the upgraded fleet by the end of December 2026.

A notable engineering feat occurred in May 2026, when engineers successfully completed the intricate conversion of an A380 from a two-class to a three-class configuration. This complex project introduced substantial structural modifications, including the groundbreaking introduction of the very first Premium Economy Cabin on the upper deck of an A380.
