Electric Collaboration: Martin Garrix Unveils U2 Team-Up 'Fireflies' with The Edge at Tomorrowland!

During his headlining set at Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium, on Friday, July 17, Dutch DJ Martin Garrix gave fans an unexpected treat by debuting his new collaboration with U2, titled “Fireflies.” The live premiere featured U2 guitarist The Edge joining Garrix onstage, with Bono’s distinctive vocals playing as part of the track. Garrix closed out the opening day of Tomorrowland on the main stage at De Schorre, with The Edge adding his signature guitar work for the final song of the night, marking the highly anticipated track’s live debut ahead of its official release.

Following the performance, Garrix shared a clip on Instagram, confirming the collaboration with U2 and announcing that “Fireflies” would be “out soon” and was premiered at Tomorrowland. The upcoming single is now available for pre-save on major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, generating excitement among fans of both artists.

This collaboration is not the first between Martin Garrix and U2. The artists previously joined forces for “We Are the People,” the official song of the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament, which achieved significant success by reaching No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in May 2021. Furthermore, Garrix produced U2’s “Your Song Saved My Life” for the Sing 2 soundtrack. Bono, U2’s frontman, has also contributed to several of Garrix’s songs as a co-writer, including “Angels for Each Other,” “Catherina,” and “Weightless.”

While the exact details regarding “Fireflies” and its potential inclusion on upcoming studio albums from either Garrix or U2 remain unclear, both artists have been active with new releases. U2 recently launched “Street of Dreams,” a soaring lead single from their as-yet-untitled next studio album, which is their first since 2017’s 'Songs of Experience' and is expected later this year. Produced by their frequent collaborator Jacknife Lee, “Street of Dreams” follows the band’s surprise release of the six-song Easter Lily EP in April, which itself came just two months after the February release of the Days of Ash EP.
