Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has demanded the immediate resignation of President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki.

In a statement dated July 9, the former presidential candidate accused the two leaders of presiding over a regime characterised by state-sponsored violence, ethnic persecution and gross human rights violations.

He described the Ruto regime as a rogue government that has turned its weapons on its people instead of protecting them.

“Kenya is under siege not by foreign enemies, but by a government that has chosen brutality over dialogue, bullets over empathy, and terror over constitutionalism,” the statement read in part.

In a statement signed by both Aukot and  Thirdway Alliance National Chairman Miruru Waweru, the party cited a wave of abductions, torture, and killings of peaceful protestors, many of them young and unarmed.

It  accused the state of responding to legitimate grievances like graft, economic collapse, and joblessness with lethal force and ethnic scapegoating.

The party alleged that the Kenya Kwanza regime was particularly after the Mt Kenya region businesses, violence in their neighbourhoods, selective arrests, and incitement through alleged state-linked propaganda.

“This is a deliberate attempt to divide Kenyans and deflect public attention from the root causes of the current resistance. The state cannot respond to peaceful dissent and poverty with bullets. It cannot respond to corruption allegations with abductions,” the party leader continued.

Apart from demanding Ruto and Kindiki's resignation, the party also called for the dismissal and prosecution of the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigations.

The Thirdway Alliance leaders also called for the formation of an independent international commission to investigate the killings, abductions, and ethnic profiling, and compensation for families that have been affected by the recent effects of police brutality.

“We must never allow power to be retained by killing the people. The Constitution must rise above tyranny. And the Republic must never again kneel before despotism masquerading as leadership,” the statement continued.

These calls by the Third Alliance party add up to the recent calls by other leaders like Martha Karua, former DP Rigathi Gachagua and Kenyans who have asked the President to resign. Karua and other Kenyans have also challenged MPs to table an impeachment motion against Ruto.
