Ekurhuleni Horror: Sixth Woman Found Dead, City Gripped by Fear
Fears for women's safety have escalated in Ekurhuleni following the discovery of a sixth woman's body in Kwa-Thema, adding to five found in Kempton Park over two months. Police are investigating the deaths, noting four Kempton Park victims showed signs of sexual assault, with two remaining unidentified, prompting a multidisciplinary investigation.
Fears regarding the safety of women in Ekurhuleni have significantly deepened following the reported discovery of a sixth woman's body in Kwa-Thema, Springs, located east of Johannesburg. This latest finding brings the total number of women found dead across Ekurhuleni to six within a span of two months. The Kwa-Thema site is approximately 45km away from Kempton Park, where the bodies of five other women were previously discovered.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili provided disturbing details during a recent media briefing concerning the five cases in Kempton Park. According to police reports, four of these five victims exhibited signs of sexual assault. Mosikili confirmed that "the majority of them" were sexually molested, noting that one body was too badly decomposed to make the same determination at this stage. Additionally, police are actively working to identify two of the five women found around Kempton Park, as these individuals remain unidentified.
The victims in Kempton Park were found partially clothed, with visible bruising reported in these cases. Despite the alarming number of deaths, police have not yet confirmed a connection between the Kwa-Thema discovery and the Kempton Park cases, nor have they confirmed that a single perpetrator or a serial killer is operating in the area. A multidisciplinary police team has been established to investigate the Kempton Park deaths and to ascertain any potential connections. This specialized team comprises experienced detectives and specialists from the Investigative Psychology Unit.
Among the identified victims from Kempton Park is 38-year-old runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo. Her family tragically identified her body on Monday, after she had disappeared last week following a run from her home. Elizabeth Moselakgomo leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter. For the most recent Ekurhuleni case in Kwa-Thema, investigators are still working to determine the cause of death and whether there is any link to the five preceding cases in Kempton Park.
