Eight in police grips over galamsey in Amansie South

Eight individuals have been arrested at Apremadi, a community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, for actively engaging in illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.
According to a police statement dated Sunday, June 29, 2025, the arrests were made during a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted by a Special Anti-Galamsey Operations Team, aimed at cracking down on illegal mining activities in the area.
The suspects have been identified as: Karim Issaka (38), Samuel Dugah (35), Seidu Karim (35), Issaka Azitarigah (24), Boadu Desmond (29), James Kabutey (21), Bashiru Idrissu (19), and Collins Amoako (24).
During the operation, security personnel retrieved several mining-related items, including three excavator monitors, four excavator control boards, and three excavator gear levers.
Efforts are currently underway to transport the excavators from the site.
All suspects are presently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
The seized items have been retained as evidence.
