Dreamworks Stuns Fans: ‘Shrek 5’ Lands Major Stars for Shrek and Fiona’s Sons!

The upcoming "Shrek 5" is expanding its star-studded cast, with Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo officially joining the beloved animated franchise. The news, which broke during the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, reveals that Hernández and Gisondo will voice Shrek and Princess Fiona's twin sons, Fergus and Farkle, who were introduced as part of the triplets born at the end of "Shrek the Third." Adding to the family dynamic, Zendaya is also set to join the "ogre fun" as their sister, Felicia.

Universal Pictures is slated to release DreamWorks Animation’s "Shrek 5" on June 30, 2027. This installment marks a significant priority for the studio and for Chris Meledandri, the head of Illumination, known for his work on the "Despicable Me," "Minions," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" franchises.

The iconic vocal cast from previous films is set to reprise their roles, with Mike Myers returning as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as the quick-witted Donkey. The film will be directed by a seasoned team, including Conrad Vernon, who previously directed "Shrek 2" and "Madagascar 2" and voices Gingerbread Man (Gingy), and Walt Dohrn, who worked on the second and third "Shrek" films as a writer and artist, was head of story on the fourth, and voiced Rumpelstilskin in the franchise. Brad Ableson, known for "Minions: The Rise of Gru," will co-direct. Gina Shay, producer of "Shrek Forever After," and Chris Meledandri will produce the film, with Michael McCullers ("The Boss Baby") also credited as a writer.

Marcello Hernández brings his comedic talent to "Shrek 5," widely recognized for his work on "Saturday Night Live" as the first Generation Z cast member, joining in 2022. His film credits include "Happy Gilmore 2," an upcoming role in the comedy "72 Hours," and he is set to lend his voice to "The Angry Birds Movie 3." Hernández is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment, and Patti Felkner.

Skyler Gisondo, a seasoned actor who began his career as a child, will also lend his voice to the film. Gisondo's notable roles include Jimmy Olsen in last summer’s "Superman" (a role he will reprise in a spin-off TV series), and supporting roles in critically acclaimed films like "Licorice Pizza" and "Booksmart." He also had prominent roles on TV series such as "The Bill Engvall Show," "Santa Clarita Diet," and "The Righteous Gemstones," and is slated to star as Ben Stiller's son in "Focker-In-Law." Gisondo is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Tyerman.

The "Shrek" franchise, which began with the adaptation of William Steig's 1990 picture book in 2001, has been a global phenomenon. The four previous theatrical films have collectively earned over $2.9 billion worldwide. Beyond the silver screen, the franchise has inspired a Broadway musical, an immersive tourist destination in London, a successful spin-off series centered on Puss in Boots, and various events and attractions across Universal Studios parks. Furthermore, a spin-off film starring Eddie Murphy's Donkey is reportedly in the works, with a tentative release window in 2028. The plot details for "Shrek 5" are currently being kept under wraps.
