You must have woken up with the 'Urgh. It's Sunday. Tomorrow's Monday."

Urgh, urgh and urgh, you mutter. Sunday seems to come with a sense of impending doom, ushering in thoughts of Monday’s responsibilities, meetings, and endless to-do lists.

But... does it have to be so maudlin? What if we told you that the way you approach Sunday can be the secret to turning not just your day around, but the entire week around? Well, it's all about having the right Sunday mindset: It makes the difference in how you feel about the upcoming days and how to manage them.

So let's see how adjusting your perspective on Sundays by a smidge, can give you the mental reset and energy boost needed to conquer the week, courtesy our two wellness experts, Sabyah Khan, and Neelima Doshi, based in Dubai.

The most common mistake people make on Sundays is seeing it as the last day of the weekend. As Khan explains, "We often find ourselves obsessing over the workweek, which only makes it harder to relax and enjoy the day." Yet, it doesn't have to be the end of something. Instead, it could be the beginning of a new opportunity. "Instead of viewing Sunday with dread, shift your mindset and think of it as a fresh start, another chance to focus on what you want to accomplish and how you want to feel for the upcoming week," she says.

By reframing your Sunday this way, you can approach the day with intention and positivity, rather than an anxious countdown. This change in perspective can ease the transition into Monday, making the start of the week feel less overwhelming.

Last week was full of moments. Maybe your boss yelled at you, or you were praised for a job well done. Perhaps you finally crossed that one nagging task off your list, the one that seemed like it would never end. Whatever happened, it's important to take a moment to reflect and reset. Acknowledge what went well, what could have been better, and what you learned from it all. "This reflection gives you clarity and prepares you for the week ahead, helping you approach each new day with a fresh mindset," explains Doshi.

Moreover, a reset doesn’t just mean organising your space, it’s about recalibrating your mindset. So, journaling, meditating, or simply taking a deep breath, or whatever works for you, can help you let go of the stress from the past week and enter the new one feeling refreshed.

Instead of allowing Sunday to slip into a day of last-minute tasks or endless scrolling, how about making it a day for activities that energise and inspire you? So, perhaps a hike, or reading, or just learning something, use Sunday to refill your cup, explain both the experts.

This sets the positive tone for the entire week, explains Doshi. "A relaxed morning of coffee and contemplation, a leisurely walk in the afternoon, or a calming evening routine, these habits not only boost your Sunday but create momentum that extends into the rest of your week," she says.

Here’s the truth: Rest is one of the secret ingredients to a successful week, and Sunday is your golden opportunity to recharge without a shred of guilt, says Doshi. "Sleep, relaxation, and downtime aren’t just 'nice to have;”—they’re essential for a clear mind and a healthy body," she says.

So, give yourself permission to kick back, relax, and embrace the idea that rest isn’t just okay, it’s absolutely necessary. When you approach Sunday as a time to truly recharge, you’ll feel more energised, focused, and ready to tackle the week ahead with renewed vigor. However, that doesn't mean you sleep all day, either, as it just leaves you groggy, lethargic and upsets your sleep at night.

Use Sunday evening to unwind and reset. A good night’s sleep can be the game-changer you need to breeze through Monday. The more you prioritise rest on Sundays, the sharper and more productive you’ll be when the new week rolls in.

A little preparation for the week can go a long way, but it’s important to keep it balanced. You don’t need to tackle your entire to-do list. Instead, think of one or two things that will help ease your Monday morning. Maybe it's picking out your outfit, organising your desk, or writing a quick email. By doing just a bit of prep, you can ease into Monday without it feeling like a shock to the system.

Finally, just wind down the day with something calming, soothing like listening to music or a light walk. When you end your Sunday on a peaceful note, you’ll start the new week with a sense of serenity and control.
