Draymond Green was taken by young Warriors' star's maturity over Steve Kerr comments, 'the reality is…'

The Golden State Warriors have a decision to make with regards to Jonathan Kuminga. The 7th pick from the 2021 NBA Draft is a free agent this summer.

Kuminga’s future with the Warriors has been in doubt for a long time. Despite showing several signs of promise, head coach Steve Kerr never really seemed to trust him.

And in the playoffs this year, Kuminga got a chance and proved why he deserved a chance with his numbers.

After the playoffs, Jonathan Kuminga gave a mature response about the way Steve Kerr handled things. And Draymond Green was very impressed with the way he handled the situation.

Draymond Green spoke on his show about Jonathan Kuminga. He admitted that the young star’s exit interview caught his eye.

Specifically, it was Kuminga’s comments about how Steve Kerr helped him this season despite the head coach not giving him the opportunities he wants.

“I love JK’s answer in this press conference. He said ‘Listen, we all gotta sit down and figure it out. Free agency does take a while. It’s going to take a while to figure it out.”

“But I appreciate coach Kerr because he’s helped me to get where I’m at.’ That was such a responsible, great, well-thought-out answer. Because it’s true.”

“Has it always gone the way you wanted it to go? No. But that’s probably what 99% of basketball players in the NBA…”

“That’s just the nature of what we do… His valley was more on Front Street for everybody. I love the way he handled it.”

Draymond added on his podcast that he expects Kuminga to earn a big contract and succeed regardless of whether he stays with the Warriors or signs somewhere else.

“One thing is for certain: I said this in my exit interview. Whether it’s here or somewhere else, he’s going to get paid, and he’s going to have a very bright future.”

” I don’t think he has anything to worry about. Everybody knows what he is capable of. That’s it, and that’s all.”

The Warriors do have an advantage when it comes to signing Jonathan Kuminga, as he is a restricted free agent due to this being his rookie contract. So they can match any offer a team makes for him.
