Douglas Luiz Man United transfer in doubt as rivals make move
Manchester United’s pursuit of former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is under threat.
The Red Devils have made improving their midfield a priority in this transfer window and have recently been linked to numerous players.
Colombia’s Richard Rios is said to be a target while Ederson has been frequently viewed as a key recruit for the engine room.
Juventus’ Douglas Luiz has also come up in conversations and he was reportedly offered to the Red Devils during discussions for Jadon Sancho.
If United are to strike a deal for Luiz, they will need to fend off a significant amount of other Premier League sides.
West Ham United and Fulham have both been credited with an interest in the player.
What’s more, Everton have also been viewed as a possible landing spot for the Brazil international should he depart Turin.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Everton are now ready to ramp up their interest to sign the combative midfielder.
The website reports that “several clubs have been monitoring Douglas Luiz’s situation for weeks, but now Everton is intent on making a leap forward.”
The article adds that the “the Toffees have already initiated contact with Juventus management and are ready to make an offer” for Luiz.
Juventus will not entertain loan offers for the player and will demand a permanent transfer as they wish to reinvest immediately in their midfield to find an adequate replacement.
The Italian site claims that Juventus would be willing to start negotiations at €40 million to try and recoup most of the €50 million they spent last summer on the player.
Everton on the other hand would favour a loan deal with an option to buy to evaluate a player who has come off the back of a disappointing season.
Negotiations will continue over the course of July with Juventus clear in their desire to trim the squad and raise funds to strengthen in other areas.
