Disney Dominance: Zootopia 2 Smashes Records to Become Studio's Top Animated Film Ever!

"Zootopia 2" has officially become Walt Disney Animation's highest-grossing movie in history, achieving an astounding $1.46 billion at the global box office. This monumental success surpasses the previous record held by "Frozen 2," which earned $1.45 billion in 2019. The animated sequel has demonstrated remarkable performance both domestically and internationally, with $333 million generated from domestic ticket sales and a significant $1.13 billion from overseas markets.
The film's box office prowess was particularly evident during the Christmas holiday weekend, its fifth week in release, where it added an impressive $87.9 million to its already substantial earnings. "Zootopia 2" reached the coveted $1 billion milestone in an incredibly short span of just 17 days, making it the fastest PG-rated movie in history to achieve this feat. Its success story is amplified by its exceptional performance in China, a market where many Hollywood films have struggled in recent years. In China alone, "Zootopia 2" has soared past $500 million, marking it as the highest total for a U.S. movie by a considerable margin. This far outpaces other recent Disney releases in the region, such as "Avatar: Fire and Ash," which is nearing $100 million after its premiere on December 19.
Globally, "Zootopia 2" is one of only three movies this year to cross the $1 billion mark. The other two billion-dollar films include Disney's live-action "Lilo & Stitch" remake, which garnered $1.03 billion, and China's animated "Ne Zha 2," which currently stands as the year's biggest movie with more than $2.2 billion. The sequel reunites Ginnifer Goodwin as the voice of the rabbit Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as the clever fox Nick Wilde, continuing their adventures as buddy cops. In this installment, the two beloved characters must unravel a mysterious reptilian threat that endangers the animal utopia of Zootopia, building on the foundation of Disney's original 2016 hit.
