Diogo Jota: Road Safety Expert Blames Liverpool Star's Death on 2 Key Reasons

Published 3 days ago3 minute read
world came together to mourn the two footballers who were buried at a church cemetery in their hometown of Gondomar, and had their former teammates in attendance.

According to CNN Portugal, the sub-government in the region where it happened has launched an investigation into the accident as “a possible speeding incident”.

The Spanish police are yet to publish an official report into the cause of the incident, but a road safety expert in Spain has postulated two reasons that made the accident fatal.

Mr Javier Lopez Delgado, president of the Spanish Association of Road Safety Auditors (ASEVI), admitted that there were faults on the highway, where the accident happened, but the brothers were moving too fast.

“If they had been going at 55mph, they probably wouldn't have been killed. It seems very clear they were going very fast because of the skid marks,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.

Delgado added that even if the tyre that blew out was not in the right condition and correct pressure, it would not have been the only factor responsible for the accident.

He added that the roadside barrier, which they slammed into, acted as an obstacle as ‘the length and angle of incidence were not correct,’ and could have also been a factor.

Another accident happened in the same spot eight days before Jota's incident, in which a 60-year-old woman was severely injured and was cut out of the wreckage.

“It could be a coincidence, but I'm not a big believer in coincidences. When two different cars come off the road at the same kilometre point, something's up,” he added.

The report added that it is uncertain whether the police report will be made public, and it is also unknown which of the brothers was in the driver's seat when the crash happened.

The world is sadly moving on from the incident as Liverpool players resumed training today, having initially pushed it forward from Friday, a day before the incident.

Legit.ng reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's sister explained why the Al-Nassr superstar was absent at Diogo Jota's funeral, which was attended by many footballers.

The Portugal national team captain was expected at the service in Gondomar, but did not cancel his vacation with his family in Majorca for personal reasons.
