Devastated Kabiru Family Demands Answers After Officer's Tragic Death Revealed in Ruto Speech

The family of Benedict Kabiru, a young Kenyan police officer dispatched to Haiti under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, has recently endured immense anguish and heartbreak. Kabiru was among 1,000 officers chosen for the high-risk deployment, sent thousands of kilometers from home with aspirations of building a better life for his young family. However, his story has tragically become one marked by unanswered questions and conflicting information regarding his fate.
Relatives of Constable Kabiru were present at the Milimani courts on September 24, 2025, amidst ongoing legal proceedings concerning his status. Just a day prior, on September 23, 2025, his brother Philip Kamau, mother Jacinta Wanjiku, and uncle Daniel Ndungu addressed a press conference at their Kiambu home, expressing their profound distress over his disappearance.
A significant and jarring turn of events occurred when President William Ruto, during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), publicly revealed that Officer Benedict Kabiru was among three policemen killed during the Haiti mission. This statement directly contradicted the information previously given to Kabiru's family, who had been informed he was still missing.
The President's revelation has subsequently thrown the ongoing court case into turmoil. During a virtual court session, the family’s lawyer, Mbuthi Gathenji, informed the court that the proceedings could not continue in light of President Ruto’s public declaration, highlighting the profound impact of the conflicting official narratives on the case and the grieving family.
