Deadly Ambush Rocks Binduri: 10 Lives Lost in Military Convoy Attack, MP Outraged

The Upper East Region of Ghana, specifically the volatile Bawku–Bolgatanga route, witnessed a deadly assault on Monday, April 27, 2026, when a military-protected civilian convoy came under attack.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) reported that unknown gunmen opened fire on the convoy in Binduri, which was transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku towards Bolgatanga.
This ambush resulted in the tragic deaths of three civilians, with one additional person injured.
In a swift and decisive response, the military successfully repelled the attackers.
During the ensuing confrontation, seven of the assailants were killed. Following the pursuit, security personnel discovered and retrieved significant items, including a G3 automatic rifle, two filled magazines each containing 20 rounds, and an additional 176 rounds of ammunition from an escapee.
Subsequently, ten suspects believed to be connected to the attack have been arrested and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.
The GAF, in a statement signed by Acting GAF PRO Captain Veronica Arhin, cautioned the public against interfering with military operations and urged restraint as security personnel continue their efforts to stabilize the area.
The statement emphasized, "The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to caution all to desist from engaging the military or any other security service during its operations."
The military also extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
This incident starkly highlights the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of the Upper East Region, particularly within the Bawku enclave, where tensions continue to escalate despite various security interventions.
Reacting to the heinous incident, Mumuni Muhammed Nurideen, the Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, strongly condemned the deadly assault, calling it a tragic reminder of the enduring insecurity in the region.
The MP expressed profound concern over the loss of innocent lives and called for immediate and decisive actions to restore peace and order.
He vehemently stated, "This senseless violence must end. We cannot continue to lose innocent lives under such circumstances," while also offering his condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
Mr. Nurideen further advocated for enhanced collaboration between security agencies and local communities to combat the recurring violence, warning that such attacks not only threaten lives but also severely undermine economic activity and social cohesion.
He stressed the importance of reinforcing intelligence gathering at the community level to ensure that those responsible for these acts are brought to justice without delay.
Additionally, the MP urged residents to fully cooperate with security forces and refrain from any actions that could hinder ongoing operations.
He concluded by appealing to the government to intensify long-term interventions aimed at addressing the fundamental causes of the conflict, particularly within the restive Bawku enclave.
The Binduri incident serves as a critical indicator of escalating tensions and raises serious questions about civilian safety, even in the presence of increased military deployment.
