Davido Unveils Highly Anticipated Sixth Studio Album 'Oriadé'
Afrobeats sensation Davido is set to release his sixth studio album, "Oriadé," on July 31st, marking his 15th year in the music industry. The album, deeply rooted in traditional Afrobeats and symbolizing destiny and honour, follows a landmark year for the superstar, including a Coachella debut and a FIFA World Cup soundtrack contribution.Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, is celebrating a significant milestone as he announces the release of his sixth studio album, "Oriadé," on July 31st, marking 15 illustrious years in the music industry. The five-time Grammy nominee shared this exciting news on Monday through an exclusive interview with Billboard and a teaser across his social media platforms, where he proclaimed: "Oriadé--31st July. The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne. Pre-order my new album now."
The album's title, "Oriadé," is deeply symbolic, combining the Yoruba words "ori" (head or destiny) and "adé" (crown), which collectively represent destiny, honour, and fulfilment. The announcement video further underscores this cultural direction, depicting the 33-year-old artist adorned in a wine-and-black traditional outfit, embellished with beads, and flanked by a majestic throne and a crown.
Davido describes "Oriadé" as a profoundly rooted project, reflecting both his personal journey and his unwavering mission to elevate African music on the global stage. Reflecting on his remarkable career, he shared with Billboard, "Over fifteen years ago, I decided to trust something I couldn't fully explain... I just knew music was my destiny. Oriadé is a celebration of the journey that led me to where I am now." He added, "To be in a position where I can help push African music forward around the world is something I'll never take for granted. I hope when people hear my new album, they understand that purpose doesn't always follow the expected path. The biggest blessings often come from betting on yourself, even when the destination isn't in sight yet."
The artist also revealed that "Oriadé" signifies a return to the foundational sound that initially established him as one of Africa's most prominent music stars. "The recent music I've been working on is really, really African. I'm taking it back to my original Davido kind of music," he stated, hinting at a project steeped in traditional Afrobeats influences. This 13-track album will be the shortest studio project of his career, contrasting with his previous albums such as Omo Baba Olowo (2012), A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), Timeless (2023), and 5ive (2025), all of which featured 17 tracks.
The rollout for "Oriadé" commenced with the release of its lead single, "I Know Who I Be," on Friday. This single serves as the official follow-up to his acclaimed 2025 album, "5ive," which impressively debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart, securing Davido his fifth consecutive top-five entry. "5ive" notably featured collaborations with artists like Omah Lay, Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Shenseea, and YG Marley, with the Omah Lay-assisted hit "With You" becoming one of the biggest Afrobeats records of 2025.
This album arrives amidst another landmark year for the acclaimed singer. In April, Davido made a vibrant Coachella debut with a colourful 45-minute performance that included a surprise appearance by Adekunle Gold. He further collaborated with Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado on "No Place Like Home," the official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and performed the song at the tournament's countdown concert in Los Angeles. While the full tracklist and guest appearances are still under wraps, anticipation is rapidly building among fans, who eagerly await another globally influential body of work from the Afrobeats icon.
