Renowned New Jersey-born house producer Cevin Fisher passed away on Thursday, October 29, at the age of 63, following a brief battle with cancer. His death occurred just three days after his birthday, leaving behind a profound legacy in the house music scene that spanned four decades.
Born Kevin Fisher in East Orange, New Jersey, Fisher's influential career saw him achieve two Dance Club Songs No. 1 hits: "The Freaks Come Out" in 1998 and "(You Got Me) Burnin’ Up" in 1999. These iconic tracks collectively spent 25 weeks on the chart. Between 1996 and 2001, he secured an additional four entries on the Dance Club Songs chart, with "Keep It Coming" reaching an impressive No. 3 in 2001.
Fisher's journey in dance music began early, scoring his first residency at New Jersey’s legendary Club Zanzibar at just 17 years old. He further cemented his reputation by producing remixes for notable artists such as Chaka Khan's "Love You All My Lifetime" and Quincy Jones' "I’ll Be Good to You." It was upon the guidance of fellow DJ Danny Tenaglia that Fisher ventured into creating his own original music, which ultimately propelled him to a global career in house music.
His enduring influence was highlighted in 2019 when David Guetta, under his Jack Back alias, released a new version of "The Freaks Come Out" with Fisher, a collaboration that garnered nearly five million streams on Spotify alone.
Beyond his musical prowess, Fisher was a multifaceted individual. He was known as a fitness enthusiast who also worked as a personal trainer, held a deep passion for basketball, and was an avid skier, particularly fond of the Jura Mountains near his home in France.
Cevin Fisher is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; his children Stephanie, Cindi, Nikko, and Tiffany; his stepsons, Jose and Tomas; his siblings, Roslyn, Rene, Rodney, and Ronold; and his niece, Nicole. His contributions to music and his vibrant spirit will be remembered by his family, friends, and a global following.
