Cyclonic circulation may bring more rain in next 2 days

Bhubaneswar: State would likely witness an increase in rainfall on Sunday and Monday under the influence of a possible cyclonic circulation, IMD said on Friday.Scientist and head of the regional IMD centre, Manorama Mohanty, said rainfall may increase due to supporting wind pattern and due to the possible cyclonic circulation. A warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind has been issued for isolated places in 13 districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Koraput — on Saturday.Light to moderate rain occurred over several places in the state during the day and in the last 24 hours. Khurda recorded highest 17mm of rainfall on Friday.

Paikmal in Bargarh district recorded the highest 62mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours.The cumulative monsoon rainfall from June 1 to July 11 was 31% more than the normal. The state recorded 412.4mm of rainfall compared to a normal of 314mm, the IMD report said. According to IMD, 7 out of 30 districts received excess rainfall of over 60% during the period. Another seven districts also recorded excess rainfall ranging from 20 to 59%. Only two districts — Gajapati and Nuapada — got deficient rainfall.
