Eastern Regional Police decries poor network connection

The Eastern Regional Police Command has blamed the surge in armed robbery cases in the region on poor mobile network coverage and bad roads.

The police have called on MTN Ghana to improve network connectivity along key areas in the region, particularly the Adukrom-Aseseeso, Aseseeso-Somanya stretch, and the Donkorkrom enclave.

According to the police, criminals operating along these routes have taken advantage of the poor mobile network coverage to carry out their activities undetected.

Eastern Regional Operations Commander, ASP Agyare Kofi Okyere, urged MTN to urgently address the connectivity challenges.

“The Adukrom-Aseseeso stretch has a poor connection, and criminals are taking advantage of both the bad roads and weak network coverage to strike,” he was quoted as saying by citinewsroom.com.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Richard Appiah, also expressed concern over the increasing attacks on mobile money vendors in the region.

“MoMo vendor attacks remain a major concern. We’re advising them not to count money openly and to operate from secure cages. Most importantly, they must have emergency contact numbers of the police handy so they can report suspicious activity immediately,” he said.
