The Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi acquitted the suspended Chief Executive Officer of Bomas of Kenya, Peter Gitaa Koria in a case involving alleged procurement irregularities amounting to Sh8.6 million.

The court ruled that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate the charges, determining that the procurement process had not been conducted with any malice and that no wrongdoing had been proven.

The case revolved around tenders issued under Quotation No. 15 (Kitchen Items), Quotation No. 16 (Utensils), Quotation No. 17 (Kitchen Items), Quotation No. 18 (Plates & Cups), and Quotation No. 19 (Cutlery and Other Items).

These tenders were allegedly awarded despite not being included in the official Budget and Procurement Plan for Bomas of Kenya during the 2020-2021 financial year.

The prosecution had argued that Koria, in his capacity as CEO, had overseen an irregular process that resulted in the misallocation of funds.

Koria was initially charged following an investigation into procurement procedures at Bomas of Kenya, leading to his suspension from office.

With the court’s ruling clearing him of the allegations, it remains unclear whether he will be reinstated to his position or if Bomas of Kenya’s board will move to fill the position permanently.

President William Ruto recently announced that construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex will begin soon, marking a major milestone in the government’s plan to transform the facility into a world-class conferencing hub.

The project aims to redefine the look, feel, and purpose of Bomas, positioning

it as a premier destination for global events.
