Country Legend Waylon Jennings' Lost Track 'Songbird' Dominates Billboard Charts!

Legendary country music artist Waylon Jennings has achieved a significant milestone, posthumously landing his first top 10 entry on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. His newly released from-the-vaults collection, "Songbird," debuted impressively at No. 6 on the chart dated October 18. This marks a notable moment for Jennings, who passed away in 2002, adding to his rich legacy of chart successes.

"Songbird" is a special compilation, meticulously put together and mixed by Waylon’s son, Shooter Jennings. The album features a treasure trove of previously unheard recordings by Waylon, spanning a productive period between 1973 and 1984. This release is particularly exciting for fans as it is the first in a planned trio of unheard albums from the iconic singer, offering new insights into his musical genius.

Beyond its strong showing on Top Album Sales, "Songbird" also made its mark across several other Billboard charts. It secured the No. 6 spot on Top Current Album Sales, No. 7 on Indie Store Album Sales, No. 8 on Americana/Folk Albums, and No. 9 on Vinyl Albums. Furthermore, it debuted at No. 17 on Top Country Albums, No. 18 on Independent Albums, and No. 116 on the all-genre Billboard 200, demonstrating its widespread appeal across various demographics and formats.

While Waylon Jennings had a stellar career, boasting 16 No. 1s on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs ranking and 11 No. 1s on Top Country Albums, "Songbird" represents his inaugural appearance in the top 10 of the 34-year-old Top Album Sales chart. The album's strong debut was driven by nearly 9,000 copies sold in the United States during the week ending October 9, according to Luminate data.

The week also saw significant activity across the Top Album Sales chart, with "Songbird" being one of three new entries in the top 10. Topping the chart was Taylor Swift’s "The Life of a Showgirl," which stormed in at No. 1 with an astounding 3,479,500 copies sold. This remarkable figure represents the largest sales week for an album in the modern era, a record since Luminate began tracking data in 1991.

Other notable albums rounding out the top 10 included Stray Kids’ former No. 1 "KARMA," which rose to No. 2, while the "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack stepped up to No. 3. Sabrina Carpenter’s chart-topping "Man’s Best Friend" climbed to No. 4, and AFI’s "Silver Bleeds the Black Sun" debuted strongly at No. 5 with nearly 10,000 copies, marking the act's fourth top 10 appearance. Rounding out the list were P1Harmony’s "EX" falling to No. 7 in its second week, KATSEYE’s "Beautiful Chaos" jumping to No. 8, Cardi B’s "AM I THE DRAMA?" holding steady at No. 9, and Mariah Carey’s "Here for It All" dropping to No. 10 in its second week.
