Coolie OTT release update: When to expect Rajinikanth's Tamil gangster drama on Prime Video after its run in theatres
Coolie OTT release update: Rajinikanth is gearing up for the release of Coolie, one of the biggest films of the year. Slated to hit the screens on August 14. It has created a great deal of buzz as it marks his first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj, the director of films such as Master and Vikram. Coolie will premiere on Prime Video after its run in theatres. Tamil movies usually premiere on OTT four weeks after premiering in theatres. However, Coolie has an eight-week window. As such, one can expect it to premiere on the platform around October 14.
Coolie: Cast and plot explored
Coolie is a gangster drama that revolves around a kingpin with an axe to grind with some old foes. It also explores the murky world of gold smuggling. The film features action sequences, punch dialogues and catchy songs. More specific details about the film’s plot will become clearer once the trailer is released.
Coolie features Rajinikanth in the lead. He is joined by Telugu star Nagarjuna, ‘Mr Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, Kannada star Upendra, and Sathyaraj. Pooja Hegde makes a guest appearance in the Monica number. Anirudh Ravichander serves as the music director. Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer.
Is Coolie a part of LCU?
Lokesh Kangaraj has redefined the tenets of the Tamil film industry with the Loki Cinematic Universe. It includes Karthi’s Kaithi, Vijay’s Leo, and the Kamal Haasan-led Vikram. There was speculation about Coolie, too being part of the same universe. However, this isn’t the case. The makers have clarified that it is a standalone project.
Coolie vs War 2: A clash awaits
Coolie is set to hit the screens alongside War 2. This clash has created a buzz in the industry as both films feature big names and are potential money-spinners. War 2 features Jr NTR as the villain, which may help it do well in the South and pose a threat to Coolie. Moreover, the Hrithik Roshan-led film has tremendous brand value as it a part of the Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, which includes titles such as War and Pathaan. That said, Rajinikanth’s star power means that Coolie can’t be written off (at least in Tamil Nadu) despite a mighty adversary.
