Congressman Shri Thanedar Delivers $2,000,000 to the City of Dearborn Heights | U.S. Congressman Shri Thanedar
July 11, 2025
- Congressman Shri Thanedar is pleased to announce that the EPA will be delivering $2 million in federal dollars to the City of Dearborn Heights for lead service and water meter replacement. This money was part of the Community Project Funding requests that Rep. Thanedar made for FY 2024, totalling $15 million.
“No one should ever be worried about the water that comes out of their tap,” said Thanedar. “Access to clean, safe drinking water is a basic human right, not a privilege. This $2 million investment will help protect families, strengthen our public infrastructure, and ensure that the people of Dearborn Heights aren’t left behind as we build a healthier, more equitable future.”
This investment comes on the heels of new water sampling rules implemented under the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act. This new sampling method can better detect potentially dangerous levels of lead or other contaminants in community drinking water, allowing authorities to better address and prevent lead contamination.
Congressman Shri Thanedar proudly represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes. As a champion for working families, Shri is committed to advancing economic opportunities, education, healthcare access, and entrepreneurship for underserved communities. Drawing from his journey from poverty to success, he works tirelessly to uplift Metro Detroit, ensuring every resident has the resources and support they need to thrive.
