R&B superstar Chris Brown has added a prestigious academic honor to his long list of achievements, receiving an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Visual & Performing Arts. The 37-year-old artist shared the news on Saturday, May 23, revealing that the degree was bestowed upon him by Harvest Christian University, a private faith-based institution located in Dallas.

Brown took to Instagram to celebrate this significant milestone, posting a proud photo of himself holding the honorary degree. The snapshot showed the “It Depends” singer beaming, adorned in black-and-purple graduation regalia with a medal draped around his neck. His post further included a closer look at the certificate itself and an image from the ceremony where he formally received the honor at Harvest Christian University.

This academic recognition comes at a particularly bustling time for Brown, who has also been actively engaging with and responding to criticism surrounding his latest musical release. His 12th studio album, simply titled “Brown,” was unveiled on May 8, prompting various reactions from critics and fans alike.

In mid-May, Brown directly addressed his detractors via Instagram Stories, expressing a resolute and defiant stance. He conveyed his unwavering determination, stating, “Team Breezy, I know people want me to get on here and, you know, say some sad s—t, but f—k that. We kickin’ they a—, God damn it! We ain’t letting up.” He further asserted his commitment to his career and fanbase, adding, “I’ma keep my foot on they neck and we ain’t stopping. You heard me? We doing this motherf—ker. Tour, more s—t to come. I’m not gon’ tell you what’s more to come, but it’s coming, at the end of the day.”

Responding specifically to a “harsh” review from Pitchfork, Chris Brown reiterated his focus on his loyal supporters. He posted, “I don’t give a f—k what these n—as is talkin’ about. I know exactly who my fans is and I know exactly who hearing this album.” Beyond his recent album release and public statements, Brown is also preparing for an upcoming R&B tour with fellow artist Usher, which is scheduled to kick off in Denver on June 26.
