Chelsea secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United in their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The decisive goal came in the second half courtesy of a header from Marc Cucurella.
The first half was a cagey affair with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Manchester United thought they had opened the scoring when Harry Maguire converted a Bruno Fernandes cross, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for a marginal offside.
Chelsea grew into the game after break and were awarded a penalty when Tyrique George went down in the box.
However, the decision was overturned after a VAR review deemed the contact minimal.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 71st minute when Reece James delivered a brilliant cross to the back post and Marc Cucurella headed home past Andre Onana to give Chelsea the lead.
Manchester United pushed for an equaliser with Amad Diallo forcing a good save from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez but they could not find a way through Chelsea’s defense.
This win is a significant boost for Chelsea’s hopes of securing a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s struggles continue, leaving them further down the table as they look ahead to their Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur next week.
