Cavill & Gyllenhaal Unleashed! Guy Ritchie's 'In The Grey' Trailer Drops!

The highly anticipated action-thriller “In the Grey” from acclaimed director Guy Ritchie has finally unveiled its first trailer, showcasing Ritchie’s distinctive blend of sharp editing, intense action sequences, and a strong sense of attitude. Set to be released by Black Bear on May 15, the film promises a gripping narrative centered on a covert team of elite operatives tasked with an impossible mission.

The plot of “In the Grey” follows this specialized team as they are dispatched to confront a ruthless despot and reclaim a stolen billion-dollar fortune. What initially begins as an intricate heist quickly escalates into a full-blown war of strategy, deception, and survival, as suggested by the official synopsis: “What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiraling into an all-out war of strategy, deception and survival.” The trailer highlights the dynamic partnership between the team’s two primary operatives: Bronco, a cocky American portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sid, a more no-nonsense Brit played by Henry Cavill. Both characters are depicted as highly skilled in explosive situations, with Eiza González serving as their handler. The ensemble cast also includes Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike, and Carlos Bardem.

“In the Grey” was first announced in 2023 and completed filming that same year, having secured an interim agreement that allowed actors to work during the SAG-AFTRA strike. While originally slated for an early 2025 release, Lionsgate, which initially acquired the film, removed it from their schedule due to incomplete post-production. Subsequently, Black Bear, the film’s producer and seller, took over the rights for its newly established U.S. distribution arm, with Lionsgate continuing to manage the film’s digital and pay-TV distribution. The movie was produced by John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, Guy Ritchie, and Ivan Atkinson.

The release of “In the Grey” comes amidst a remarkably productive period for Guy Ritchie across both film and television. His recent directorial credits include 2023’s “The Covenant,” which also starred Jake Gyllenhaal, and 2024’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” featuring Henry Cavill. Other upcoming film projects include “Fountain of Youth,” “Wife and Dog” (currently in post-production for a 2024 release), and “Viva La Madness” (now in production). On the television front, Ritchie has seen success with “MobLand,” which was recommissioned for a second season, and Prime Video’s recently released “Young Sherlock,” a prequel that quickly ascended to the top of streaming charts. The second season of Netflix’s “The Gentleman” has also been completed and is awaiting its release date.

Similarly, Henry Cavill has embraced a diverse range of roles since his iconic portrayal of Superman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU. After a brief absence from the screen in 2025, Cavill had a busy 2024, starring in three films. These included the Apple TV+ original spy thriller “Argylle,” his impactful MCU debut as a variant of Wolverine in the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” where he reunited with Guy Ritchie. Their collaboration on “In the Grey” marks another significant project for the duo, further showcasing Cavill's versatility beyond the cape. Collider also debuted new images from “In the Grey” as part of an exclusive preview event leading up to the film’s premiere.
