Cannes Film Festival 2025: Tom Cruise, De Niro, Sainz

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 was a stage for significant events, including the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, reflections on mortality by Robert De Niro, and the Cannes debut of Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning received a five-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere. Tom Cruise, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude, stating, "This kind of response is why we do what we do." Director Christopher McQuarrie praised the team's resilience during the pandemic and industry strikes. The film is set to release in India on May 17, 2025, ahead of its U.S. debut, promising a high-stakes farewell to the iconic action saga.
Robert De Niro, at the festival to launch the trailer for his documentary about his father, reflected on fatherhood and mortality. When asked about his fear of death, the 81-year-old actor responded, "I don’t have a choice, so you might as well not be afraid of it. You just have to learn to embrace life, move forward and take everything good and bad." He also criticized Donald Trump, calling him a "philistine president" and an enemy of the arts. Leonardo DiCaprio, who presented De Niro with an honorary Palme d’Or, praised De Niro's character and contributions.
Carlos Sainz made his Cannes Film Festival debut as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal, accompanied by actor Eva Longoria. He shared photos on Instagram, capturing his red carpet appearance and his excitement about joining L’Oréal. Sainz will soon compete at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy.
