Buhari Was A Waste of Space, A Soulless Tyrant Who 'Disappeared' Dadiyata And Massacred Protesters, Shiites, IPOB Members -Sowore | Sahara Reporters
In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore condemned what he described as attempts to sanitise Buhari’s legacy in the wake of his death.
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a tyrant without a soul, who grossly violated human rights and court orders during his tenure.
In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore condemned what he described as attempts to sanitise Buhari’s legacy in the wake of his death.
He called out those mourning the late president, insisting that history should remember Buhari not with reverence but with a focus on the victims of his regime.
Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, recalled how Buhari ordered the violent crackdown on peaceful protesters, members of the Shiite movement, and young men and women in the South-East, whom he labelled as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“Muhammadu Buhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women, and even children,” Sowore wrote.
“He ordered soldiers of the Nigerian Army to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag.”
Referencing the unresolved disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, Sowore said, “He ‘disappeared’ Dadiyata. He ordered the massacre of young Southeasterners whom he branded IPOB.”
Sowore, who was repeatedly arrested and detained during Buhari’s administration, further accused the late president of authoritarian rule and gross economic mismanagement.
“He disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy, and ruined everything he touched.”
He questioned the public mourning surrounding Buhari’s death, describing it as misguided and unjustifiable.
“And now, because he’s dead, some people with selective memory want us to mourn or worship him? Shameful,” he said.
Sowore concluded his post with a strong repudiation of Buhari’s legacy, saying, “No, we do not mourn tyrants. We remember their victims. No, we do not mourn tyrants. We remember their victims.
“Buhari Had No Soul!!!”
In an earlier post, Sowore also lambasted the former leader, saying, “As President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari was a total waste of space!”
“8 years of terrible policies, deepened poverty, weaponised insecurity, and hollow leadership. He promised change, but delivered catastrophe,” he added.
Sowore’s remarks reflected a broader divide in public opinion over Buhari’s legacy.
While some Nigerians, especially his political party members and allies, have praised the late president’s efforts in anti-corruption and infrastructure development, others, like Sowore, have pointed to a pattern of authoritarianism and human rights abuses he exhibited during his tenure.
SaharaReporters earlier exclusively reported that Buhari died of leukaemia on Sunday in London, UK.
Sources privy to Buhari's health condition told SaharaReporters that the former President died of leukaemia – a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells are produced.
