Bringing people together is key to political leadership - Chief of Staff
Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to President John Dramani Mahama
Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to President John Dramani Mahama, has emphasised that political leadership must serve as a platform to unite people, regardless of their political affiliation, ethnicity, or religious background, to contribute their quota and resources towards socio-economic development.
According to Debrah, in an era where politics often feels detached from the everyday lives of citizens, leaders must redefine the responsibilities of political leadership and create moments that foster genuine human connection.
He stressed that it takes more than ambition to inspire unity through inclusivity that is free from discrimination.
Debrah noted that a true leader must embody compassion, humility, and the ability to listen before speaking. Such a leader must also align with the broader vision and aspirations of the citizenry and the nation as a whole, irrespective of social standing or religious belief.
Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Automotive Summit held in Accra, on June 18, he emphasised that those in leadership positions must embrace everyone they encounter, showing the kind of care and affection befitting a people-centered governance approach.
He reiterated that the quality of leadership one offers directly influences the level of trust and hope that citizens place in their leaders.
Debrah stated that a leader who exhibits compassion, humility, and inclusiveness sends a clear message that citizens can trust and believe in them. Such leadership, he said, resonates like the nurturing outreach of a mother or grandmother—offering not just direction, but hope, comfort, and reassurance.
Debrah’s message underscores the need for unity in political leadership. By embracing inclusivity, compassion, and humility, leaders can build trust and hope among citizens—ultimately contributing to sustainable socio-economic development and a brighter future for all.
