On Wednesday, February 19, Voices Of Community Activists and Leaders of Africa (VOCAL Africa) CEO Hussein Khalid said the body was retrieved by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers and taken to Jack Mortuary.
Khalid disclosed that the family of Brian Odhiambo, a 31-year-old fisherman from Nakuru, who has been missing for weeks, rushed to the mortuary but upon viewing the body confirmed it was not of their missing kin.
"Today, a body was retrieved from Lake Nakuru by KWS officers and taken to Jack mortuary. Our @VOCALAfrica_team together with family of Brian Odhiambo rushed to the mortuary and upon viewing of the body, we confirmed it was not Brian," Khalid said.
According to details shared by Khalid, the body retrieved from Lake Nakuru was fresh, as blood could be seen oozing.
The human rights activist said they are working with the relevant authorities to establish the identity of the deceased.
"The body was fresh and was even oozing with blood. We are working to establish the identity of the deceased," he added.
As earlier reported, Elizabeth Ouma, Brian's mother, was heartbroken after discovering that the body recently retrieved from Lake Nakuru was not Odhiambo’s.
This came after four fishermen stumbled upon the body inside a sack while working, which they suspected belonged to the missing man.
A relative stated that the family is distraught as they keep moving from place to place in search of their loved one whenever they receive a phone call.
She further pleaded with the KWS to release their kin, saying they would keep off once he was produced.
Fishermen who found the body floating on the lake claimed they were threatened by park rangers and forced to leave.
However, KWS officers allegedly failed to inform Odhiambo’s family about the body, even a week after it was retrieved.
As a result, one of the fishermen alerted Odhiambo’s mother that a body had been retrieved from the lake.

Previously, reported that Nakuru Law Courts Judge Julius Nangea ruled that there was no evidence proving that Odhiambo was in the custody of KWS officers.
The ruling left Odhiambo's mother in deep pain, as she revealed that her missing son was their only breadwinner.
Residents who accompanied her to court voiced their frustration, demanding justice for the family and the return of the fisherman.
