Breakthrough: Suspect Nabbed in Horrific Mamelodi Double Murder

A tragic incident unfolded in Mamelodi, Gauteng, where police discovered the bodies of two young women on Sunday, leading to the swift arrest of a 38-year-old suspect on Monday. The victims, identified as 22-year-old Tshiamo Moramaga and her 21-year-old cousin, Baleseng Moramaga, were found deceased with gunshot wounds to the head on the side of a road in Mamelodi East Extension 1. The cousins, who reportedly shared a rented room in Mamelodi, became the subject of a double murder investigation initiated by Gauteng police.

Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, spokesperson for the Gauteng police, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation was launched immediately. A chilling video circulating on social media showed the two women lying lifeless in Mahube Valley, a sight that deeply affected the community. Witnesses reported seeing the cousins engaged in an argument with a man they recognized shortly before the fatal shooting occurred. This crucial piece of information likely aided the police in their rapid response.

Further investigation by authorities revealed that the gunman also shot a third individual, who remarkably survived the ordeal and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. This revelation added an attempted murder charge to the suspect's growing list of allegations. The suspect was apprehended by a dedicated joint team comprising detectives from the Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East detectives. Their collaborative efforts led to the arrest at a filling station located in Pretoria.

The arrested man is now facing charges related to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear before the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, where proceedings for this heinous crime will commence. Prior to the arrest, the Aubrey Tau Foundation had demonstrated its commitment to justice by offering a substantial reward of R250,000 for any information that could lead to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible. This initiative underscored the community's desire for closure and accountability in the wake of such a devastating event.
