BREAKING: Sowore Remanded in Kuje Prison Following Court Appearance

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has been ordered to be detained at the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja. This directive was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar, following the revocation of Sowore's bail and the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest due to his failure to appear in court for his ongoing trial.

Sowore arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, reportedly prepared for the court's decision, telling newsmen at the premises that he knew his detention would be ordered. He came to court with his bag packed and was accompanied by members of his group, who displayed placards.

The revocation of Sowore's bail by Justice Mohammed Umar, along with the bench warrant for his arrest, initially occurred on June 16. This action was taken in response to an oral application made by Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, the lawyer representing the Department of State Services (DSS), after Sowore failed to appear in court for his trial.

The DSS is currently prosecuting Omoyele Sowore for allegedly making false claims against President Bola Tinubu. The prosecution specifically stems from accusations that Sowore referred to President Tinubu as "a criminal" in posts he made on his "X" (formerly Twitter) and Facebook social media accounts.
