Brad Pitt's Method Acting Flatulence Anecdote

During an appearance on the “New Heights” podcast, acclaimed actor Brad Pitt recounted a humorous early career incident where his attempt at Method acting led to an embarrassing and unforgettable moment. While filming one of his first movies, a scene required his character, who hadn’t eaten for days, to consume a large plate of beans and bacon. Eager to embody the role, Pitt, embracing the Method approach, consumed the entire plate of beans take after take.

The incident unfolded in a small, hot, and crowded cafe filled with approximately 60 crew members. Pitt recalled powering down the plate of beans through multiple takes, describing how something eventually “hit” him. Unable to move from his chair, “nature took its course,” much to the uncontrollable laughter of podcast hosts Jason and Travis Kelce. Pitt initially thought he had gotten away with it, but then, he explained, a “diabolical something” descended upon the entire crew in the room, causing them to flee the cafe.

Ironically, despite this early mishap, Brad Pitt later became widely synonymous with eating on screen throughout his career. There are numerous YouTube supercuts dedicated to scenes featuring his characters eating, with one popular video titled “15 Minutes of Brad Pitt Eating” garnering 2.7 million views. Pitt, however, expressed his bewilderment to the Kelce brothers regarding why eating became such a distinctive career identifier, noting that everyone eats.

Currently, Pitt can be seen on the big screen in his latest film, “F1,” which does not feature him eating. The movie achieved a significant global opening, taking in $144 million and marking Apple’s biggest start yet at the box office. Discussions for a sequel are reportedly already underway.
