Boxing Legend Floyd Mayweather Announces Unexpected Fight with Kickboxer Before Anticipated Pacquiao Showdown

Legendary undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., at 49 years old, has announced a busy 2026 schedule which includes an exhibition bout followed by a highly anticipated professional rematch. Mayweather is set to face kickboxer Mike Zambidis in an exhibition fight in June 2026, taking place in Athens, Greece. This preliminary event will precede his second professional encounter with Manny Pacquiao, 47, scheduled for September 19, 2026, in Las Vegas.

Mayweather shared his excitement on social media, stating, "2026 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for me. Europe, I'm on the way to entertain! Athens, Greece... get ready for an all-out exhibition. This summer will be a legendary battle." He further added, "June is the month where history will be made at the Telekom Center. Different energy. Different level."

His exhibition opponent, Mike Zambidis, 45, is a retired Greek kickboxer whose professional career concluded 11 years ago. Zambidis boasts an impressive record, listing "18 world titles, 87 savage knockouts" among his achievements and is famously known by the nickname "Iron Mike." Interestingly, this nickname is shared with Mike Tyson, who is also rumored to be fighting Mayweather in an exhibition this year, though that contest remains formally unannounced.

Since officially retiring from professional boxing after defeating Conor McGregor in 2017 to achieve a perfect 50-0 record, Mayweather has participated in numerous exhibition bouts. His past exhibition opponents include high-profile personalities such as influencer Logan Paul, kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, former sparring partner Don Moore, MMA fighter and YouTuber Mikuru Asakura, KSI's brother Deji, reality TV star Aaron Chalmers, and he has twice fought John Gotti III, the grandson of the Mafia boss.

The upcoming clash against Manny Pacquiao will mark a significant deviation from Mayweather's recent exhibition circuit, as it is slated to be a professional fight. This means that Mayweather's esteemed undefeated 50-0 record will once again be on the line, adding immense stakes to the September rematch against his long-time rival.
