The suspect, Geoffrey Kipkemboi, reportedly ran to his parents and confessed what he had done, leading to his arrest.

“He told his mother about the death of his children, and she was shocked and wondered where the children were,” stated Zakayo Rono, Kipkemboi’s father.

Nicholas Kosgei, a family member, stated that he did not understand what could have led the man to kill his children brutally.

“We work with him, and I know he is a very hardworking. I am dumbfounded by what has just happened,” he said.

Another family member called on the government to look into the matter, noting that cases of gender-based violence had become rampant in the county.

Wilson Lang’at, a neighbour of the troubled family, urged residents, especially the youth, to avoid indulging in activities that may lead them into crime.

“If it’s the alcohol, then they should stop. And if they have problems at home, they can always speak to the elders about it,” said Lang’at.

After confiding in his parents about the gruesome act, Kipkemboi was arrested early in the morning.

The 35-year-old had allegedly returned home after a drinking spree in the evening and ended the lives of his two daughters, aged two and seven.

Citizen TV reported that the suspect had a troubled relationship with his wife, Sisco Chepkirui, and they were on-and-off.

The bodies of the two children, Valentine Chepkoech and Millicent Chepngetich, were moved to Kapkatek Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.

Police officers have launched investigations to ascertain the motive behind the man’s actions.

While confirming the incident, Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga noted that Kipkemboi committed the offence for reasons yet to be established.

He is currently being held at Konoin Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court.
