"Bollywood Influenced Us Greatly": Another Simple Favour Costume Designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus | Filmfare.com
Notably, this marks Renee's fifth collaboration with Paul Feig, following A Simple Favor, Last Christmas, The School for Good and Evil and Jackpot. Their bond has evolved, and Renee shared how her director gives her the freedom to explore ideas. "We were very interested in working with each other. One of the things that has happened over the movies that we've completed is that the relationship has become trustworthy and collaborative. Paul gives me the freedom to explore ideas and bring them to him. That trust helps me connect with the actors, too. He describes the characters, and I create a look for them. And when you create a look that helps them step into their characters, it all comes together. I’d show Paul my ideas, and most of the time, he loved them or gave thoughtful feedback. We’ve worked smoothly from the start, and it’s only become more creative over time. It’s wonderful to keep creating with the same team. There's a safe place for both to be creative and try something new," she shared about Paul.
Before signing off, Renee also shared her admiration for Bollywood. "I was just thinking when I was speaking to you all that Bollywood is so aspirational and beautiful. One of the things that I said to Paul was, this colour should be right in your face - bold and expressive. I do think of Bollywood that way. He is also a huge fan. So kudos. I bow down to that whole industry and think it has influenced us greatly as designers."
Besides Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, Another Simple Favor also stars Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Alex Newell, Henry Golding and Allison Janney.
