BMW's 'Neue Klasse' Revolution: i3 and iX3 EVs Unveiled with Qualcomm's 'Superbrain'

BMW has officially lifted the wraps off its first Neue Klasse model slated for series production, the iX3 electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), marking a significant leap forward in the brand's electrification strategy. This reveal also offered a first glimpse at the production form of the Neue Klasse saloon, which will revive the BMW i3 nameplate as the electrified version of the new 3 Series, with both petrol and electric M3s also confirmed for the future.
The launch specification iX3 50 xDrive boasts impressive performance figures, with 463bhp and 476lb ft of torque delivered to all four wheels via twin motors utilizing BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. This powertrain enables a brisk 0-62mph acceleration in just 4.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 130mph. Beyond speed, the iX3 incorporates a substantial 108.7kWh usable battery, featuring advanced cylindrical cells and 800-volt technology, contributing to an exceptional WLTP range of 500 miles. Recharging is equally rapid, with 400kW charging capability allowing an additional 231 miles of range to be added in a mere 10 minutes – a 30 percent increase in charging speed compared to models with fifth-generation eDrive technology. BMW's sixth-generation eDrive further enhances efficiency, cutting energy losses by 40 percent, reducing weight by 10 percent, and lowering manufacturing costs by 20 percent.
